On Monday night, December 16, 2019, Poetry Ocean Shores hosted its first “Open Mic Night” in its new location, the Ocean Shores Public Library. The 9 attendees included 6 readers who entertained the audience with poetry or stories. Two readers were new to the Poetry Ocean Shores group, and we look forward to hearing from them again.

The Library provides an excellent meeting space. The books surrounding the room create the perfect ambience for hearing our local voices. It is a keen reminder that literature—especially poetry—is a verbal as well as a written art. Our gratitude goes out to the Library, an invaluable resource to us and the community at large.

The next “Open Mic Night” is scheduled for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 20, 2020. King demonstrated to the world the power of writing and the voice, so it will be a good day to come out and celebrate the writers and voices right here in our community.

We welcome poets, writers, storytellers, musicians, comedians, or other performers from Ocean Shores and beyond. We also welcome kind-hearted audience members seeking a unique and free event. So please join us whether you are local to Ocean Shores, a neighbor from a nearby community, a day-tripper enjoying the beach, a traveling troubadour, or a sasquatch hoping to be found. We’ll be here waiting for you.

Subject:                    An Open Mic Venue for Poets, Writers, Musicians
                                 and Spoken Word Artists

Poetry Ocean Shores, founded by Mary and Ed Parris, has held events in September and November, 2019, at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Ocean Shores, thanks to John and Cindy Ravenhill. Both nights drew a dozen spectators, about half of whom presented poems or stories. This is grassroots literature at its finest.

Due to changing circumstances and the anticipated growth of this event, Poetry Ocean Shores will be moving to a new venue and time. Beginning Monday, December 16, 2019, at 6:30pm, the Open Mic will be at

The Large Meeting Room
Ocean Shores Public Library
573 Point Brown Avenue NW
Ocean Shores, WA 98569

This will be an on-going event held on the third Monday of every month thereafter. Coffee, tea and light snacks will be served.

Poetry is our focus, but we are open to all: poets, writers, singer/song writers, musicians, comedians, and just folks who want to sit and listen.

Come on down and let your voice be heard whether you are an Ocean Shores local, a tourist, a traveling troubadour, a day tripper to the Shores, a lost Sasquatch hoping to someday be found, or an interstellar space traveler probing for intelligent life at the beach. It’s always a good time when diverse creative voices share common ground.

Opening Night October 2019

The Lighthouse Poetry Society of Ocean Shores held its first open reading at the Lighthouse Restaurant on Saturday, October 12, 2019. A very attentive and supportive audience of 10 showed up to listen to 6 presenters. It was a lovely evening of poetry, short stories, storytelling and artistic fellowship.

Given the success of this evening, there is no doubt that all subsequent open reading nights will be a success. Although its unifying bond is poetry, the group welcomes all spoken word artists, singers, musicians and comedians. Please join us next time on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 5PM, at the Lighthouse Restaurant, 850 Point Brown Avenue, Ocean Shores.
